Martlets Champions was established in 2009 for local people and companies who want to raise awareness and funds for the Martlets Hospice.

Champions donate £500 a year or £50 per month.

Champions adopt and fund specific Hospice projects so that their impact is clear to see.

Champions act as Martlets ambassadors and recruit other Champions.

The Martlets Hospice provides hospice care to people affected by terminal illness including cancer. It has helped over 20,000 people since opening in Hove in 1997.

The Hospice is a registered charity – it costs over £4.8 million every year to run and only around £1.4 million annual funding comes from government. The remaining £3.4 million must be generated through local community support.

At 1 January 2012, we had recruited 37 Martlets Champions which has generated income of £43,000 for the Hospice.  Since the scheme was set up, all funds raised have been applied to sponsor one of our Hospice nurses Carey Mills who cares for people staying on our InPatient Unit.
